Greeno - Empowering Sustainable Urban Living
Project Genesis
Greeno originated from my experiences as a social service volunteer during my undergraduate years at Christ University. Witnessing firsthand the challenges of waste management in urban areas, I was inspired to create a solution that not only addresses these issues but also promotes environmental consciousness.
Project Overview
Objective
To develop a mobile application that revolutionizes urban waste management through effective segregation, disposal, and recycling, making sustainable living accessible to urban populations.
Duration
4 Weeks
Tools Used
Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Notion
My Role
Lead UX/UI Designer, overseeing the complete design lifecycle from initial concept to final implementation.
The Challenge
Despite growing environmental awareness, urban residents often struggle with practical aspects of waste management due to inadequate infrastructure and unclear guidelines, leading to severe pollution and health risks.
User Research
Engagement with over 50 individuals through surveys highlighted:
44% actively tried to segregate waste but found existing systems cumbersome.
82% would increase recycling if simplified systems were introduced.
76% were hesitant to purchase recycled products due to authenticity concerns.
User Personas
Vedanshi Sharma
Driven by a desire to maintain a clean and organized home, she finds the current waste management processes inefficient.
Nikita Kher
A dedicated nurse and mother who uses kitchen waste for compost but is looking for more structured recycling solutions.
Customer Journey Mapping
This exercise helped pinpoint specific user frustrations and needs, shaping the app’s development to enhance user interaction and satisfaction.

Information Architecture
Structured the app to provide intuitive access to educational resources, waste segregation guidelines, and a marketplace for eco-friendly products.

Innovative Solutions
-
Intuitive Segregation Assistance: Leveraged AI to guide users in segregating waste, reducing confusion and increasing efficiency.
-
Localized Pickup Schedules: Integrated a system that adapts to community-specific needs, optimizing waste collection.
-
Verified Green Marketplace: Created a platform within the app for users to purchase certified recycled goods, building trust and supporting the green economy.
Design Process
A dynamic iterative approach was used, including detailed wireframes, user testing feedback loops, and the creation of high-fidelity prototypes to ensure the app was both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust.

Impact and Learnings
Greeno stands as a testament to how innovative design can facilitate significant environmental change. This project highlights my commitment to integrating sustainability into design, driven by early experiences that shaped my perspective on social and environmental challenges.
